Frequently Asked Questions

What is Korean American Service Day and why should I participate?

Korean American Service Day (KA Service Day) is an annual occasion for Korean Americans and their families, friends and networks to support their local communities through one coordinated day of service.  KA Service Day aims to:

  • Rally Korean Americans and their networks to join together and make a difference in just one day
  • Forge long-term relationships between volunteers and their local community organizations
  • Increase exposure for Korean American civic engagement and service in all underserved communities

On Saturday, April 22, 2017, join hundreds of volunteers in supporting our communities.  Join the movement!

How do I sign up?

Go to the "Sign Up" section of the website, click on your city and browse the list of volunteer opportunities.  All KA Service Day events are hosted through Eventbrite and you can sign up to volunteer through Eventbrite.  Please be sure to review the restrictions for each event to ensure you meet the volunteer requirements.  Once you sign up, be sure to check our Facebook page for updates.

If you are not located in one our volunteer cities for 2017, you can submit your own event - see the "Submit an Event" section."  Or, you can also send us an email at info@kaserviceday.org and tell us to add your city to our 2018 list!

Is this event open to non-Korean Americans?

Of course! KA Service Day is open to all family and friends. We urge everyone to participate in this event.

Can I bring family and friends with me?

All family and friends are welcome but please be sure to sign up each participant who joins you. Please also be sure to review the restrictions for each event to ensure everyone meets the volunteer requirements.

What are other ways I can help support KA Service Day?

Please encourage your family and friends to join.  Also, if you know about any organizations which might want to partner with us, you can create and submit your own volunteer event (see the "Submit an Event" section") or just send us an email at info@kaserviceday.org.  You can also donate money to our movement via GoFundMe.

What kinds of events are available to volunteers?

We have worked with numerous community organizations to identify a wide variety of volunteer opportunities which take place at various times and locations and require different commitment levels. Most importantly, our opportunities meet critical needs across the cities, allowing you to work with children, adults or seniors.  Volunteer events range from working in food pantries to tutoring to outdoor restoration projects.  To learn more about our volunteer opportunities, see the "Sign Up" section and browse the list of volunteer events.

What should I wear and bring with me to the volunteer event?

Some events may have specific requirements so please carefully review the details listed for each event.  In general, you should wear comfortable closed-toe footwear, dress appropriately for the weather, and avoid wearing any loose jewelry. Since available storage at many volunteer sites is minimal, it is strongly recommended that you bring few personal items with you.

If I sign up for a volunteer opportunity but want to make a change, what should I do?

You can change your volunteer registration directly via Eventbrite.  You can also directly email us at info@kaserviceday.org and we’ll help you implement any changes.

If I sign up for a volunteer opportunity but have to cancel, what should I do?

That’s OK. We understand that things come up. However, it is very important that you de-register as soon as possible so that another volunteer can take your place. Our community organizations are relying upon us and we do not want to let them down. You can cancel your volunteer registration directly via Eventbrite.  You can also directly email us at info@kaserviceday.org

Submit an event for KA Service Day 2017

If you would like to host your own KA Service Day event, please create the listing on Eventbrite by following these instructions:

  1. Log into your Eventbrite account (or create a new one if you don't already have one).
  2. Click "Create an Event" on the upper right corner of the screen.
  3. In Section 1 of the form, name your event "KASD2017 - your event name".  You must include "KASD2017" in the title of your event in order for us to locate it and display it on our website.
  4. Enter the address and time for your event.  All events need to occur on Saturday, April 22, 2017.  The event time should match the time you would like volunteers to show up on site.
  5. Add an event image.  This can be your non-profit logo or a picture that might resemble what volunteers will be doing.
  6. Enter the event description.  We recommend providing a brief background on your organization and/or your organization's mission statement.  Be sure to include any special restrictions or helpful instructions for the volunteers (e.g., physical requirements, dress code, directions to the site).
  7. In Section 2 of the form, click "Free Ticket" for the ticket type.  Type in "Volunteer" for the ticket name and input the maximum number of volunteers that can be hosted at the event.  Click on the ticket settings icon and adjust the "Ticket sales start/end" date and time as needed (in general, we recommend starting ticket sales immediately and ending the sale as close to April 22 as you can manage).  You can also adjust how many volunteers an individual can sign up by lowering/raising the maximum count under "Tickets allowed per order" (we recommend using the default value of 10).
  8. In Section 3 of the form, ensure that the event is set for "Public page.". Choose "Other" for event type and choose "Charity & Causes" for event topic.
  9. Check the box that says "Show the number of remaining tickets on your event listing."
  10. Be sure to Save your event.  Using the buttons on the upper right corner of the screen, you can Preview your event before publishing it.  Once your event is finalized, click the “Make Event Live” button to publish it.
  11. Send an email to info@kaserviceday.org and let us know when the event has been posted.
  12. Share the link on your Facebook page and tag @kaserviceday - this will help us publicize your event to potential volunteers.

If you need any further assistance, you can email us at info@kaserviceday.org.
